The usual problem
Price per litre is the most misleading number in waterproofing. A R60 tin that covers 8 m² a litre in one coat looks four times cheaper than a R199 litre that covers 2 m² at three coats. Per litre it is. Per waterproofed square metre that lasts a decade it is not even close, because the cheap figure assumes a single thin coat over an unprimed roof, which is a colour change with a shelf life of about eighteen months. The second trap is the missing lines. Primer, detail reinforcement at bolts and laps, the clean, and the third coat are all real costs, and a quote that leaves them out is not cheaper, it is smaller.
Our approach
So here is everything, published. Rubber Sealant® is R199 for 1 litre, R790 for 5 litres and R1,990 for a 20 litre drum. Bonding Liquid Super+ primer runs from R189 to R1,650, and Etch Primer Rust Supreme, the metal primer, from R195 to R2,390. Manufacturer's recommended retail prices including VAT, confirmed on enquiry. At the manufacturer's three coats a 20 litre drum covers about 40 m² on smooth flat surfaces, about 33 m² on metal sheeting, about 27 m² over old torch-on, about 20 m² on concrete or brick, about 17 m² on roof tile and about 13 m² on slate. Installed, tile and metal roofs start at R240 per m², flat roofs at R265 per m² and asbestos sheeting encapsulation at R285 per m², each including the clean, the correct primer, reinforced detailing and the full three-coat build. Take any quote you have and check it against these. If somebody is a third cheaper, ask which of those four things they are leaving out, and get the answer in writing.

Honest limits
What we will tell you up front.
A proper contractor should be honest about what a service can and cannot do. These are the things we will always flag.
- Prices shown are the manufacturer's recommended retail prices including VAT and can change without notice. We confirm price and availability when you enquire.
- Coverage figures assume a clean, sound, correctly primed surface. Porous, pitted or heavily textured surfaces drink more.
- Quantities are rounded up to whole drums. Liquid rubber is not sold decanted.
- Liquid rubber is the only waterproofing system we apply. We do not install torch-on membranes and we do not do injection damp courses.
- The 13-year manufacturer product guarantee applies only where the manufacturer inspects, the system is specified correctly, the application is certified to thickness and the maintenance conditions are met. Individual products applied on their own carry a shorter product guarantee.
- Any asbestos-cement area is excluded from ordinary cleaning and preparation methods. South African asbestos rules prohibit cleaning or preparing asbestos-cement surfaces.
