Colour & finish, Durbanville, the Northern Suburbs and greater Cape Town

Waterproof does not have to mean black.

Most liquid rubber is black, so most people assume that is the only option and budget for a top coat over it. Rubber Sealant® is mixed in fourteen standard colours besides black, at no extra cost, which means the colour and the waterproofing are the same layer.

Problem & approach

Where these projects go wrong, and how we handle them.

The usual problem

Waterproofing a visible roof, a parapet, a balcony or a boundary wall usually turns into two decisions and two invoices: seal it, then paint it so it does not look like a tar patch on the front of your house. That second layer costs money, adds a day or two, and quietly becomes the weak link, because now you have a decorative coating sitting on top of the membrane that actually does the work, and it will chalk and fade on its own schedule. Meanwhile the sealed area on the street elevation is the one everybody in the family has an opinion about.

Our approach

Colour is mixed into the Rubber Sealant® itself. Black is the standing colour, and there are fourteen standard colours besides it at no extra cost: charcoal, slate grey, dove grey, snow white, ivory, sandstone, terracotta, brick red, heritage green, forest green, teal, navy and chocolate among them. Anything off the chart can be custom mixed on request. So the finished surface is the membrane, in the colour you chose, and there is no separate decorative layer to fail. If the goal is heat rather than looks, there is a separate titanium cooling top coat that goes over the cured membrane, but that is a heat product and it is optional. Ask us for the current colour chart before you commit, because a chart is a stock reality and a swatch on a screen is not.

Black is the standing colour, and Rubber Sealant® is also mixed in 14 standard colours, so you do not pay for a top coat to get a colour. Need something off the chart? It can be custom mixed on request. The swatches above are an illustration, not a stock list: ask us for the current colour chart and we will confirm the colour with your quote.

What may be included

Scope you can actually read.

The exact line items on your quote depend on the site inspection. This is the shape of what a typical project of this type includes.

  • Colour chosen from black plus fourteen standard colours at no extra cost
  • Custom mixing on request for anything off the chart
  • Current manufacturer colour chart confirmed before the order goes in
  • Colour written into the quote so there is no argument on site
  • Advice on how colour affects heat on sheeting and flat roofs
  • Optional titanium cooling top coat where reflecting heat is the goal

Products we work with

The Systems Behind the Work.

  • Rubber Sealant® logo

Approved applicator and authorised reseller of Rubber Sealant® Liquid Rubber.

  • Plascon logo

Our preferred paint on most projects.

We are not a Plascon approved applicator. Plascon is simply the paint we choose to specify for its quality and track record, and we will recommend a different system where a project calls for it.

Our process

6 steps from enquiry to handover.

  1. 1

Tell us the surface and where it will be seen from

  2. 2

We send the current colour chart and confirm availability

  3. 3

Colour written into your quote or product list

  4. 4

Custom mix arranged if you need something off the chart

  5. 5

Membrane applied in that colour, three coats

  6. 6

Optional cooling top coat over the cured membrane if heat is the priority

Honest limits

What we will tell you up front.

A proper contractor should be honest about what a service can and cannot do. These are the things we will always flag.

  • On-screen swatches are an illustration, not a stock list or a colour match. Always confirm against the current manufacturer chart.
  • Custom mixing is on request and can affect lead time and price.
  • Rubber Sealant Aqua, the bitumen-based product for dams and ponds, is black only.
  • Colour affects heat, not waterproofing performance. Dark colours run hotter on sheeting and flat roofs.
  • The cooling top coat is a heat product, not a waterproofing one, and it goes over cured membrane rather than on its own.
