Buying liquid rubber: what to check before you pay for the drum.
Three questions decide whether your order works out: which primer your surface takes, how many litres three coats actually needs, and whether the seller has ever applied the stuff. Get those wrong and the cheapest drum in the country is money on the floor.

The usual problem
Most liquid rubber in South Africa is sold by people who have never been on a roof. You get a product page, a per litre price, a coverage figure that assumes one coat on a smooth surface, and a courier. Nobody asks what your roof is made of. Nobody mentions that metal takes a different primer to tile. Nobody warns you that the 8 m² a litre on the page becomes closer to 2 m² a litre once you apply the three coats the guarantee assumes. So the order arrives short, the job is finished thin, and the roof gets recoated within two years by somebody being paid to fix it properly.
Our approach
We sell the product as an approved applicator, which means the conversation starts with your surface rather than your credit card. Tell us what the roof is, roughly how big, and what you are trying to fix. We name the primer, calculate the quantity at three coats, round it up to whole drums and tell you the honest total before you commit. Rubber Sealant® is R199 for 1 litre, R790 for 5 litres and R1,990 for a 20 litre drum. Bonding Liquid Super+ primer runs from R189 to R1,650, and Etch Primer Rust Supreme, the metal primer, from R195 to R2,390. Manufacturer's recommended retail prices including VAT, confirmed on enquiry. Collection is in Durbanville by arrangement. For anywhere further afield, ask and we will tell you plainly whether buying from us makes sense or whether you are better served closer to home. At the manufacturer's three coats a 20 litre drum covers about 40 m² on smooth flat surfaces, about 33 m² on metal sheeting, about 27 m² over old torch-on, about 20 m² on concrete or brick, about 17 m² on roof tile and about 13 m² on slate.

Honest limits
What we will tell you up front.
A proper contractor should be honest about what a service can and cannot do. These are the things we will always flag.
- Collection in Durbanville is by arrangement only, Monday to Friday 08:00 to 17:00. We are not open for walk-ins.
- We are a Cape Town business. Outside the Western Cape, collection is usually impractical and we will say so.
