The usual problem
Almost every early failure we are called out to comes down to the same mistake: the right product, put onto the wrong preparation. Rusted metal primed as though it were galvanised. Roof tile treated like smooth concrete, so a drum meant to cover 17 m² was stretched over 40. A painted surface coated without anyone checking whether the old paint was still holding. It all looks identical the day it is finished. That is the problem with waterproofing: the difference between a good job and a bad one is completely invisible for about eighteen months, and then it rains properly.
Our approach
So we start with the surface, not the product. Metal, including galvanised, Chromadek, IBR and corrugated, takes Etch Primer Rust Supreme, after the loose rust is off. Concrete, plaster, brick, roof tile, slate, old torch-on, sound paint and wood take Bonding Liquid Super+. Never both, never neither. Then the coverage figure changes with the surface. At the manufacturer's three coats a 20 litre drum covers about 40 m² on smooth flat surfaces, about 33 m² on metal sheeting, about 27 m² over old torch-on, about 20 m² on concrete or brick, about 17 m² on roof tile and about 13 m² on slate. Then the details: bolts and screws on sheeting, ridges and valleys on tile, upstands and outlets on flat roofs. Those get reinforced first, because that is where nearly every leak actually starts. Only then do the three coats go on.

Honest limits
What we will tell you up front.
A proper contractor should be honest about what a service can and cannot do. These are the things we will always flag.
- Structure comes first. Perforated sheets, rotten timber, broken tiles and sagging purlins are repaired or replaced before any coating is quoted.
- Liquid rubber is the only waterproofing system we apply. We do not install torch-on membranes and we do not do injection damp courses.
- We do not remove, cut, drill or dispose of asbestos sheeting. We seal sound sheets in place.
- Rubber Sealant Aqua is the product for holding water in, such as dams and ponds, and is not for roofs. A pool shell takes Rubber Sealant Splash.
- The 13-year manufacturer product guarantee applies only where the manufacturer inspects, the system is specified correctly, the application is certified to thickness and the maintenance conditions are met. Individual products applied on their own carry a shorter product guarantee.
- Any asbestos-cement area is excluded from ordinary cleaning and preparation methods. South African asbestos rules prohibit cleaning or preparing asbestos-cement surfaces.
