Buying it is easy. Buying the right things is not

We sell Rubber Sealant® Liquid Rubber as an authorised reseller in Durbanville, and we also apply it, which means we see both ends of this. The pattern in a wasted DIY waterproofing weekend is remarkably consistent, and it is nearly always a shopping-list problem rather than a skill problem.

The four things people leave out

  1. 1Primer. Bought the sealant, never mentioned the primer, no primer on the roof. This is the big one.
  2. 2The right primer. Bonding Liquid Super+ on masonry, tile, slate, torch-on and sound paint. Etch Primer Rust Supreme on all metal, galvanised and Chromadek included.
  3. 3Enough product for three coats. The coverage number on the front of a tin is not a three-coat number.
  4. 4Extra for detail. Bolts, laps, ridges, valleys and cracks drink far more than flat field area does.

Buy the drum where you can. Rubber Sealant works out at R199 a litre in a 1 litre tin and R99.50 a litre in a 20 litre drum, so the pack size is the single biggest lever on your material cost.

How collection works in Durbanville

Stock sits at Stor-Age Self Storage, 4 Plein Street, Durbanville, and collection is by arrangement only, Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 17:00. Phone or message first so your order is picked and priced and somebody is there to meet you. We are not a walk-in shop, and turning up unannounced usually means a locked door.

When you should not buy it from anyone

If the sheets are perforated, if the timber is rotten, if the purlins sag, or if the water is coming from a blocked drain rather than through a surface, product is not your answer and no amount of it will be. We would rather tell you that on the phone than sell you six drums and see you again in a year.
